I saw my doctor (again) today. It’s not another cold — it’s a drug-resistant bacteria that fought back with a vengeance when I stopped the second round of antibiotics. I got a steroid shot and am on the strongest antibiotics available. If this doesn’t clear the sinus infection up by early next week, I might have to have surgery. Yikes! I’ll keep you posted. ~ Faith

May I suggest d-Mannose in a nasal spray or sinus / netti pot rinse.
It is a sugar that bacteria love, and attach to. After using the spray or rinse, blow your nose a few minutes later. Claims are that you’ll notice a significant difference immediately.
I have not used it for sinuses, but I have used it for my daughter in a UTI. It worked little rally overnight. You can find d-Manose at a health food store.
Hi love,
Here’s another option: being an opera singer, I know about these things, although if you had a spare £500 quid, I’d suggest seeing an otolaryngologist in Harley Street for what you apparently have.
There is a piece of kit that many singers have (I have one too), which is rather gross, but actually works on infections like yours. It’s called a NETI pot, and they have been used for donkeys years by all sorts of people to get rid of congestion and infection in the sinuses. I think the best thing is if you check out this link http://www.ceramicnetipot.com/ and have a read.
Sure, it is gross, but try it – anything to avoid surgery. Having said that, I had a sinus flush when I was 10 years old, after months of terrible sinusitis, and it totally cured me. The trick is to get on top of infections before they get out of control. If you have narrow tubes in your ears or nasal passages, this is a particular problem, and you just have to be extra vigilant about infections than other people do. I’m like that – partly because a cold gets in the way (at least) of singing, but also because frankly, I’d rather be puking, having the trots and a high temperature than a heavy infection in my head.
I really, really sympathise – try 2 grams of Vitamin C a day for a week (Berocca in water – see below), and eat loads of fruit and veg – fresh made soup is best, and cut back on dairy for a week – it makes mucous worse as it is a bit of an irritant for most people. And, the best thing of all – water. if you can, two – three litres a day – warm if you like, with cordial if you must. It thins the mucous massively and also flushes your system out. Do also eat a pro-biotic; use capsules rather than yoghurt to avoid dairy. Also, smother yourself in Olbas oil every night – on your chest and your neck. It is perfectly safe to use neat, and will help you breathe easier through your nose.
Get as much sleep as you can and only wander out if you feel like it. Fresh air does help.
If none of this helps, opt for surgery – it sorted me right out!
Good luck,
Clarissa X
Faith-
I wish you the best hopefully no surgery will be necessary. I also got a sinus infection which caused havoc with my asthma so I just got out of the hospital and am on high dose of oral steriods. I hate it but I’m feeling slowly better. Breathing is important. So I do wish you a fast recovery. Thanks for keeping us updated.

I thought I had posted this before, but in the ’70s I had this disabling sinus infection & went to an ENT. He stuck a needle in the sinus (going in through the nose — I heard the very thin bone give way) and gave it a good washout. I think he only used water. It hurt like hell. If I were doing it today I’d want, first, a lidocaine wash, then, once that had taken effect, a saline washout followed by an antibiotic wash. Whatever he did, it fixed my infection immediately. It was an in-office procedure. Because it hurts, you’ll probably feel awful for half a day after the lidocaine wears off, so you might want to do one sinus at a time.
My mom had to go through something similar. She had sinus infection after sinus infection for about 6 months. When she went to the ENT specialist, he said that her sinuses were blocked and scarred from all the build up. She had the surgery and then had to be on antibiotics again (the strongest ones, like you are on). It took about 20 rounds of antibiotics, surgery, and tons of sinus cleansings to get her well again.
The weird thing is, is that when she went to a lady that specializes in holistic medicine, she asked if she was ever sexually abused as a child. Indeed, my mom had been, by her brother for a long time when she was very young. The lady connected this to the ongoing sinus infections. She did a “cord removal” ceremony with this lady, and this was part of the reason that she believed she healed.
I hope you don’t have to do the surgery and you are well after this round of antibiotics!
I hope you feel better soon, that the antibiotics will help you.
LOL, I know better than offer a ‘remedy’ or a ‘cure’ – you’re probably in a deluge of them, and only you know what works best for you. (Sinus rinses, antibio’s, steam, zinc, whutever). Given that, let me just offer you my best hope for getting better, feeling fine, and having a good time (or as best you can these days!).
Until later. Rest that poor head of yours.
Just thinking of you today. Hoping and praying you are feeling better.
